PAPASAN

Artist Name

Founded in 1999, the Plein Air Painters Association of San Diego composes a group of dedicated artists who have been inspired to paint on location, recording not only those landscapes that may become lost forever but also treasured spaces that have already been preserved.

Papasan artists painting at the beach

The shared passion of our PAPASAN members for creating paintings which express our unique relationship with nature has taken us to paint together weekly from the sea in the West, to the mountains and the sprawling back country in the East; and from the peaceful lagoons in the North to the cityscapes of downtown San Diego in the South.

As plein air painters we are walking in the footsteps of the French Impressionists who left their studios to paint “en plein air”, recording for posterity the world around them.

“The beautiful is in nature, and it is encountered under the most diverse forms of reality. Once it is found, it belongs to art, or rather to the artist who discovers it”. -- (Gustave Courbet)
